Practise with a score you can use.
The practice studio accepts MIDI, MusicXML and compressed MusicXML (MXL) score files. Bring a file you have permission to use, choose a short excerpt and review the notes you play.
Which file should you choose?
MusicXML and MXL describe written music and usually preserve more notation detail. MIDI describes timed note events and may need cleanup before the displayed score reads well. A PDF, MP3 or WAV is not a supported score import.
How a session works
- Import your file and check the displayed notes before recording.
- Select an excerpt, tempo and count-in that suit your goal.
- Connect a MIDI keyboard, play the passage and review pitch and timing evidence.
If an import fails, the current working score should remain available. Try a smaller supported file or check the import help.
Rights and exam claims
A score file is not automatically free to redistribute because the composition is old. Use your own licensed or permitted file. An imported piece is not automatically part of a current ABRSM or Trinity syllabus; confirm exam requirements with the board. Learn how MIDI feedback works, or try an original exercise without importing anything.
